Thanks to Paul, Steve, Dave, Alan, and Irby for thoughtful responses,
and especially to Irby for providing an actual measured performance
number as well as giving me a heads-up on the behavior of EMC with
respect to the "home" button.

You've helped me gain an appreciation for the different functions
these seemingly trivial switches could serve. To push Dave's closing
metaphor, I'm still trying to figure out what tools should be "in the
box."

I'd still be interested in performance numbers for mechanical switches
akin to Irby's number for his slotted optical switch if anybody's got
them. Alan said he's heard all kinds of good things about the
repeatability of mechanical switches, but supporting data are elusive.
