It's supported by the steel frame.
If I stagger the holes then there's only 16 it can't drill on its own.
It can take all day if it wants to. Hmm 100 holes in 8 hrs is <5 min a
hole.
It may well take all day..

20 mm thick. That's worse than I thought from your picture. Well, not
having
any but the vaguest idea what this material is actually like, I can't
offer a whole
lot of help. I have a surface plate that is almost a meter long (24 x 36")
and it is 4" (101.6 mm) thick. That is pretty stiff. Anyway, if you
don't mind
using a second fixture plate that might be aluminum with the 25 mm grid
of holes, then probably a 100 mm grid would be fine. That sounds like a
lot of
work with the diamond core drills!
