I came across this new midi-sized cnc mill, it looks interesting.
$6,800 R8 / 1.5 Hp / 300 to 4500 RPM variable / 16 * 10 travel

We shouldn't spend much list time on it, as its not home-brew...
but apparently you can add your own controller easily, as a
computer is not normally included, and it uses microstepping
nema34 steppers (with ballscrews).
