Surely if you loose a connection the last thing it will be doing is
running away unless it is an encoder connection perhaps.

The only danger with connectors might be damage to the drives if one
is inadvertently disconnected or is intermittent and that is where
choosing the connectors and keeping the dog away from your control box
comes in.
