I don't bother with this. The windings are manufactured separately on
paper bobbins, everything is soaked with varnish and they are slipped
over the cores when the transformer is being assembled. The paper is
more for mechanical support during assembly than anything else. They do
offer a measure of safety as if a turn is loose, it can start vibrating
from the magnetic fields. If it comes into contact with the core, the
insulation could be rubbed off and a short develop.
I am using stranded 10 Gauge and 8 Gauge electrical wiring for winding
my secondaries and the insulation on this stuff is more than strong
enough.
