AWG (American Wire Gauge) is what I am used to.
10 Gauge is good for 30 Amps, 8 AWG = 40 and 6 AWG will get you 55 Amps.

Wikipedia has an article with metric conversions and the formulas and
ampacitys:

There is a lot of room to play with. My first recent project was when I
got a 1.5KW transformer a month ago. I have been making a spot welder
from it using six turns of 4/0 welding cable and there was some room to
spare. Still working on the design for the handpiece and welding tips
but it works great.

Also, just as a heads up: All of the microwave ovens I have been taking
apart were not working. Bad magnetrons, bad controllers and probably a
bad transformer or two. I will be testing each transformer before
offering it for sale. The sheet metal is being recycled by a local
steel company. The composite doors will be visiting Landfill Camp for a
long long time but that is a lot better than an entire Microwave Oven.
