When I go back in 6 months to figure out what I did, it will be
clear to me at a glance. Did you notice that the DRO values are
reading in X and Z?

There is a two step process, click button 1) draw in lathe mode,
click button 2) Create lathe toolpaths. Toggle between if needed.
All the detail boils down to two buttons.

At the present time the Vector lathe routines are oriented to the
coordinate axes, not the view. I cannot change that quickly, but
have written a couple of product spec changes that may fold that
capability directly into a future version of Vector. That would
eliminate the 2nd button.

One thing that was not included in the write up is that if you
orient the view and the coordinate axis as shown in the first step
(button one) and then File-Save As, file of type Vector template
(.cct ), file name Lathe, you can subsequently use File-New, pick
the Lathe template, and the new drawing will start in lathe x-z axis
drawing mode. That could eliminate the first button.

It's clear that Vector can draw in lathe coordinate mode, as you
requested, and it's flexible enough that it can be done without
changing the basic program, or curtailing any of the other
functionality. A couple of minor changes would also make it fairly
transparent for lathe only use.
