Everyone is welcome to their opinion. Were it not for certain OS's
and innovative companies we would not have affordable CAD, CAM or
Software based controllers. There are alternatives to parallel ports
(WINCNC, DeskCNC, GREX) but as stated, there are a lot of machines out
there both hobby (which is what this list is about) and commercial,
running with one or two parallel ports.

The report of the death of the parallel port is premature. Computer
manufacturers would like to see it go away since it means less parts
to have to pay for. The problem is that there are millions of parallel
port devices out there that will be orphaned. Last check at a local
Fry's showed that most of the units for sale still had parallel ports.

This is not the venue for discussing the negatives or positives of a
given operating system other than in the context of running a home
built CNC machine. The posters need to temper their remarks with the
understanding that there are thousands of group members out there and
negative posts do nothing to advance this hobby and may create false
impressions to people that want to build their own machine.

Lets pull this discussion back onto the focus of this group and avoid
the snide comments.

We (the moderators) will not allow this to turn into a flame war and
take away from the purpose of the group.

As always any comments on this need to be OFF List to the moderators.
