I got back from NAMES last night- a 935 mile trip for me. I must be
getting old, I spent Sunday night at a motel instead of driving the
whole 17 hours in one day.
As others have said it was a good show, but it was very light on actual
CNC stuff on the floor. Only IMSRV, Jon Elson and PMDX had equipment.
There was one vendor selling CNC parts, but all he really had was some
8020 scraps and a few old steppers.
Nothing close to the old days when we filled many tables with CNC gear.
There were several seminars, and the seminar facility was the best Ive
ever had at a show. I did my 'CNC on the cheap' seminar Saturady at 10
and Sunday at noon. Saturday there were people still lined up to get
into the show when the seminar started, but I still had 50 or so for the
talk. Sunday only about 20. I think the other 3 CNC seminars were
equally well attended.
Clearly the attendees want to hear about CNC.
After all the worry about the new venue I think it worked great. I was
able to get in and out of the loading dock quickly, parking was no
problem, hotel was nice, but expensive.
We have a chance to make a bigger CNC event at Cabin Fever in January.
Gary Schonely, the show promoter, has asked me to pull together all the
CNC activity we can. He has offered whatever table space, power, etc we
need. Any suggestions on what to do are welcome. Ill be posting more
when we get closer to the time.
