You should also be able to use <gasp> Ms-dos based networking! Most network
cards still support this, and the Network client for dos is free! It takes
5 floppies, and I can walk you through the install. I can snail mail you
the disks, or e-mail me and I'll put 'em on the web.
(Compatible With Win95/98/NT* Requires enabling the guest account in NT)

Another easy way to set it up is install Windows for Workgroups 3.11. It
will allow you to network with NetBEUI or IPX natively and you can get an IP
stack for it from a Windows NT server installation (It is a 2 floppy setup
that you then add just like any other networking protocol, let me know if
you need it).
This way you set your system to just boot to DOS. If you need to network you
can enter WIN and you will be on the network in far less time than it takes
Win 9X to boot. Once your transfer is complete close WFW and you are back in
DOS.
I used a setup like this before I went to EMC.
