the Linux system, and push files over. I do this because the modem is
on the
Windows machine, so new software downloads go there first. Also, the
CAD/CAM
software is on the windows machine, so NC toolpath programs are created
there.
I can also pull files over from the Linux CNC machine, using the default
FTP
program, there. But, I have to start an FTP daemon program on the
Windows machine first, to accept the FTP requests.
This works very well, and makes it essentially painless to move files
back
and forth.
In principle, with the right software, you could RUN the EMC program
remotely, from a Windows machine, by having the user interface section
connect to an Xwindows server running on the Windows machine, instead
of on the Local Linux host. I wouldn't really do this, as there is a
possibility
of a network failure leaving you unable to control the machine tool, but
it
has been done.
