I use polyurethane foam blocks for making models ( plugs ) for
fibreglass moulds. These would be ideal for doing test runs on a CNC
gantry. They are available from most fibreglass materials suppliers up
to around 200mm thick, but can be expensive. Most of these materials
are greatly affected by static electricity created by the friction
from rubbing or sanding, so a vacuum / extraction unit should be used
or the dust will stick to everything.
