Having said that if you look at the relevant forum on the CNC zone
there is a thread about a 16bit absolute encoder now available that if
bought in quanity is VERY VERY cheap. You then just need very good
bearings and some carbon fibre tubing. If I were to do it I'd look at
writing a plug-in for rhino to take the points, there is a wizard in
the SDK for that sort of thing though you need to do the matrix stuff etc.
Nothing's easy :(
