Thats what they are doing with Mach3 now. Art just rewrote the whole digitizing scheme. It's a dll plug-in( I think?). It stores all the points in a file. I opened one with Bobcad and could look at the surface in 3D. Never could get it to transfer to a skin, but I didn't try long. I think this is more of a Rhino operation.

Does mach allow you to save encoder readings? If so you could post
process the data to produce a point cloud. Mach now has an SDK so
perhaps that could be put into use.
