Knoppix is a popular CD-bootable Linux load. http://www.knoppix.net/.
We use it at work for forensics stuff quite a bit. I can't say anything
about running CAM on it though..

I wouldn't run anything less than a Pentium 2 500mhz and 512 meg of
ram. which should run any linux software. curious why you were asking
about "linux on CD"

P.S. we are running a P2 500 and windows 2000 here at home.
the key is 512 ram and a good hard drive. I like segate.
