I wired it up as if it were a HEDS-9200 and it worked fine. I think I
got something like 2048 counts per revolution, but am not exactly sure
(it was on an axis with a graduated handwheel and it took at least the
second guess at resolution before the handwheel and dro stayed in sink
over multiple turns).

They look to be on the small side for servos. If you do figure out
how to get the codewheels off, please tell. I just attached the whole
thing to the back of my crossfeed screw, motor and all - the inertia of
the little thing is insignificant compared to any reasonable size
machine tool axis. I suppose one could probably extract the read head
and make it work with a codewheel from us digital, but the motor
already has (plain) bearings and all...
