Okay. What controller software will talk modbus for motor (motion
control)? Mach3 can't and I don't think EMC does (but then it might).

You appear to be in the same position as the guys that buy into the
Smart Drives concept that uses RS485 communication. They have an open
API but you need to be a programmer to use it. If you are (a
programmer) then you are all set.
