I believe that is why the simple controllers use DOS as a program loader
then do everything themselves after they are loaded. DOS does have uses
even in these days. Most people are not into doing the whole bootstrapping
programs anymore. (That was in the 1970's when we wrote those a lot).

In either case you need a realtime kernel to make the CNC work properly.
