you just KNOW we have to figure a way to do the thing.

Plasma is often best done in or under water, so at least some of the
problems should be reduced by submersion.

also, since you know the exact distance from the cutter head, it seems
that it would be possible to add a deflector so the splatter and
discharge were directed in a manner, down the pipe.
