I will explain in simple terms take the actual reading of the ac going
into the rectifier. Your voltage on 120 will be closer to 110 maybe. The
meter does not usually read the peak of the sine wave. When you put a
diode rectifier on the ac you are reading the peak voltage dc and this
will stabilize with capacitors on it.
