Buy yourself one of the cheap serial port breakouts with the LED's and
wires you jumper. Most serial communications between devices needs a
crossover between Receive and Transmit signals and some also need the
DTR and DSR or CTS pins swapped. If you can get pinout on the
HydroPath and match the signal names with the PC port you have a start.

THEN the fun begins. You have to have the right signaling on the
right pins. Even a baud rate mismatch will result in the unit just
sitting there.

Trying to do it by changing settings without having the right pins
hooked up should keep you busy until late Summer (:-o
