Rong-Fu RF-45

This question is directed toward Dan Falck, or anyone who has played
with an RF-45. I recently aquired a nice set of NSK ball screws from
Bill Giffin and am ready to start my conversion to CNC.
I'm wondering if you used commercial end supports with ball
bearings or made your own. I'm curious about the preloading of the
screw and how you approached it. The original lead screw uses thrust
bearings in the right hand end plate and seems to rely on those for
bearing surfaces for the screw to rotate on and then uses the roll
pin in the right hand wheel assembly to take the slack out and
provide the preload. There isn't any adjustment that I can see. The
left hand end plate has no bearing except the bushing function of the
hole in the plate.
Do you think these bearing arrangements are sufficient for CNC? If
they are it would be very simple to machine the ballscrew ends to the
correct diameters to replace the current lead screw, although if I
did this I would take advantage of the tapped hole already in the
ball screw to provide some adjustment of the preload.
I am reluctant to go this route since is seems the wear would
eventually get to be too much. I'm thinking about new end plates with
a single ball bearing on the left end and double bearings with
bellville type washers for preload adjustment on the right end.
I would like to get some advice from folks that have been there
before on the best way to proceed.
Thanks
