That makes it a lot clearer, I was having trouble with that thrust
bushing 8>).
Since the ball screw I have has a larger diameter than the mill's
lead screw, I'm thinking I can avoid the thimble setup by turning the
ball screw to fit the original thrust bearings and end plate. If I
replace the roll pin with set screws and use a screw in the end of
the ball screw to set the preload, then tighten the set screws, I
think it will work. If I go this route, I plan to put the drive
pulley on the other (left) end of the ball screw. I would either make
a new end plate for the left side or bore it out to take a ball
bearing.
If this sounds un-workable please yell at me now.
I'm also still trying to decide between servo and stepper drive, I'd
like to hear how folks are doing with the Gecko servos, maybe that
will help, they are much cheaper than any other system I know about.
