Blowing the power supply to hell does not sound like so much fun.
Some of the process sounds contradictory. in the R/C style, a spark
gap of some 0.001" can be bridged by a low voltage.
running 600 volts, the spark would jump a huge distance.
it does seem that one should have a test for short before each pulse,
if that can be added to the circuit.
