Hi Andrey
Sintering, I think is when it's made of a powder that is compressed and
fused by heat, like bronze filters, and alloy pulleys.
I wasn't aware you could do that with taps and drills, never thought they
would have enough tensile strength.
Learn something new everyday, I'll have to look it up and see what can be
done, normally I get fine things EDM eroded for a job, but that's not cheap.
Thanks Mark

Mark,
From what I understand, a lot of the small stuff is now sintered, not
machined. Evidently sintering technology has gotten to a point where
extreme accuracy is attainable.

For fine drills, in the UK many of the model dealers have a little red
plastic box of wire drills, I think they go down to 10 thou.
You could also look to printed circuit board drills, 0.3mm is the smallest
mot like to go, but via sizes go much smaller so drills must be available.
Most commercial PCB drills are however carbide so very fragile, since they
brake easily, but they drill very true which is good for precision work, the
wire drills often wander a bit, they are very sensitive on feed pressure.
I'm amazed sometimes at the fine pitch on some of these fine taps, is it a
rough straight flute drill, oh heck it's a tap, be interested to know how
they make them that fine, like watch makers screws. Think I'll stick to
clocks.

at an auction 20 years ago I bid on a cabimate with different tools onside.
There was a bow full of small drills. From the smallest up tp 3/32" . Each
little packet had a dozen drills per. The guy who one the auction asked me
what I wanted out of the cabinet and I told him the box of small drills. He
asked me if I'd give him 25$ dollars for them, I said no problem. That $25
saved me thousands over the years. There were also tiny taps. I've looked in
the box of drills and they aren't there. I don't know if they went when I
sold the company, but I will look. I should be able to help with the tap
drills anyway. I mainly used ~.025" for vacume forming molds. I have the
other sizes smaller and larger. tell me what you need, and I'll look for the
taps.
