  Hi John,
I agree; the LMD18245 boards from ELS are a good choice for a small PCB
router!
PICstep also has a very similar board project:
http://www.fromorbit.com/projects/picstep/index.php
Now who would be making a stepper board with a dsPIC? ;>)
