I have never been able to find inexpensive LMD18245's;
they are always the $10-$20 range. Whereas, the venerable
L298 can do 3.5 amps at 48 volts and I can easily get
them for $3-$4 each. Yeah, I know the LMD18245's are
FET technology, and the L298's are bipolar, but in the
end, who cares, they both work just fine.
