I turn tapered threads with turbocnc at 700-1000RPM.

I've built an ELS on TCNC by modifying the screens and it runs on $100
hardware..

antiquated, or at least the version I helped somebody set up
recently was. Just totally dark ages, and he can get his
mini-lathe to thread at no higher than 40 RPM or something.
