water based is going to have a short life if not used frequently and
maintained. My machines may sit for weeks at a time without use. It
would be nice to use them when I need to without having to deal with
the stench or dump and refill for a once in while use.
See http://www.mcmaster.com/ page 2123 for the following blurb:
"Biodegradable Misting Coolant Concentrates
Safe for machines and the environment, these synthetic coolants are
fortified with rust inhibitors and prevent foul odors. Use on all
metals for drilling, milling, tapping, sawing, turning, and grinding
applications. These coolants also work for flooding applications.
Dilute them with water to suit your application."
My band saw lives in an unheated shed. I've kept a jar of Kool Mist on
it for a couple of years now. Only problem is it freezes, so I have to
remember to bring the bottle and hoses inside if I'm going to use the
saw the next day. Otherwise takes about 5 minutes to thaw in a pan of
hot water. One of these days I'm going to try adding a couple of
ounces of anti-freeze.
