Wire / Cable Type to use for a 180 oz / 1.66 amp stepper motor

What type (solid or stranded) and size (gauge) of wiring are most folks
using to connect their stepper motors to the HobbyCNC boards?
I just built one of the HobbyCNC 4 axis foam boards, and I will be
running the stepper motors at or below 1.6 amps. My initial thought
was to use some serial cables, but cutting one open, the gauge of the
individual wires looks waaaay small.
What has everyone else used, and what is a good source for what you
used?
Thanks
