I use black 7 core trailer cable for mine, it's cheap, robust,
flexible, will handle all the current I need (and then some) and the
cables are color coded or numbered.

Alternatively I recently used the grey 7 core cable designed to
connect central heating controls.. it's pretty much the same as the
trailer cable, but rated 400V.

my 12V NC limit switches are wired through the same cable with no issues.

I have locking plugs connecting the cables to the control unit.
