LIMIT SENSORS FOR MACHINE AXIS

I am building a router and am wondering what are the best type of
sensors to use for the ballscrew driven axes:
1 referencing
2. limit switches
3. stop switch

my problem is that there seems to be too much choice but im sure that
there is a best option. Could anyone help me make a choice.
