It has been suggested to use Molybdenum Disulphide, and PTFE mixed into
epoxy for homemade moglice. I had a heck of a time getting the
proportions right, but try not to mix in so much that it just becomes a
thick mess that won't pour. I did a homemade round linear bearing
surface experiment this way, and if the darn rod was straight, it would
have worked. You could also use straight ptfe if you had no M.D. to add
to it. I believe that'd be moglice 1000 equivalent.
I'd be very interested if you came up with a proportion that remains
pourable, and had either a ratio based on weight or volume that you
would be willing to pass on.
I eventually went to delrin AF for my Sherline leadscrew nuts, but
purchased the PTFE and M.D. for epoxy first, just couldn't get it all
worked out in a timely manner (I am teaching an after school class, and
need the machine for parts for the class) or I would have stuck with
the moglice.
I used spray wax for my release agent. You can get it from Burman's in
LA or look it up and get it locally. Epoxy parfilm.
Good Luck, and keep us updated of your experiments!
