One option -- make a steel tube the size of the rotor (so the shaft is
not in the way) and press the rotor out. Treadmill motors usually have
the magnets as stationary and the rotor has windings on it. If it is a
PM rotor (like a stepper), sliding it into a tube would be better.

Of course, this is theoretical. YMMV...
