Have a look for stone companies in your area, a lot have CNC milling type
equipment for engraving work. Companies doing counter tops or headstones may
be a good place to start.
Failing that, most monumental lettering is done with self adhesive rubber
tape, the letters are laser cut (more or less the same as signwriters
equipment), then the tape is stuck on, the letters removed and the surface is
sand blasted (then painted and possibly gold leafed for what its worth). Sand
blasting has very little effect on rubber (grease, other spongy stuff) but eats
away stone, concrete, brick etc very quickly.
A diy handheld sand blaster would do the job on normal bricks, it would be
slow though. I would imagine a sand blasting company would happily take on the
job if the tape was already applied and they had a few dozen to do. The finish
with this type of lettering isnt great though, it needs to be at least painted
to look good.
Best of all would be to build a machine to do it ;) Best of luck if you go
down this road.
