Thanks for the tips. I use the tailstock a lot for between centres work, so that idea is great.

My conversion is on a 9x20 lathe, which gives me limited amount of space. On other projects I have used the large industrial style limit switches which have large actuation forces (15N). I wanted to use something with a large actuation force so I don't get accidental trips from swarf bumping them, but I can't fit these (30x40x50mm). Does anyone know of a compact limit switch that isn't easily activated? Or some other way to prevent false activations?
