I don't know what the lathe looks like, but if things are crammed, one thing
you can do is mount a rod, 1/2in? to the carrige, that extends to the left
or right of the machine. Then, away from the swarf and fluid, you have the
rod passing through a plate, and a clamp on either side. There are also
limit switches on the plate. You can now set the clamps along the rod to
determine your work envelope.
