Doug, If you are running Win9x, go to http://www.zonelabs.com/ and download
ZoneAlarm firewall, It's free, and written by Steve Gibsont
I used to use a program called Spinwrite that he wrote about 15 years ago.
The new version also blocks "email-borne Visual
Basic Script worms, like the "I Love You" virus, "dead-in-its-tracks","
(That was a quote from his website)
I have been using it for a while and it works good.
