The last 2 suggestions are far better but if your not happy with soldering
then you could get a (way to expensive for the job you want to do) waveform
generator. Maplin have them, its test/lab equipment.

Haven't read up on those 2, you will need to check the frequency output is
progressive (not 100hz steps or anything like that) as you will need
frequencies right at the bottom end of what they are intended for.
