Just a note to say that as a designer of custom machines, I've always
provided a jack screw to do the adjustments with. Trying to move the
motor/plate and tighten the bolts is a lot like trying to tighten an
alternator belt with just a wrench.

1/2" slide on the motor usually is needed to allow the belt to be
placed. Probably 1/4" travel in the other direction will allow for any
reasonable belt stretch.
