No, the nichrome (or pure chrome) grating on the scale is actually QUITE
tough. You want to use solutions, only, to clean it, certainly no
abrasives. But, gentle brushing or wiping with clean wipes will not
hurt the grating. Q-tips work really well, I have done several scales
this way.
