Hi Jeff,

I'm running both a 3axis Xylotex and a Gecko 540 and have also run a Mechatronics 4 axis board.    All have worked great for me.    The Xylotex is the oldest and the only reason I would replace it is if it failed or I needed a 4th axis.    I have had a lot of good service from my Xylotex unit!    The few very minor problems I have had with any of these drivers has been operator error!   Luckily all were remedied w/o repair.

If you need something a lot better you prpobably need closed loop servos!

Thanks!

Hi,

Even a gecko can have failure due over-voltage or mis-wire, thus the reason they created the G203V which has a $26.00 premium cost over their regular drive. If you treat the Xylotex drive right (as most people do), you can have years long use with absolutely no problems.

Actually there is a comparison with the G540 if you don't plan on using all of the amperage/voltage capability the G540 can provide in the application system (i.e need for speed). Such systems would include smaller machines like Sherline, Taig or small router. If you are running rapids all day, then yes, the Gecko will beat the Xylotex no questions. For for milling speeds on these machines, the Xylotex can provide more than sufficient current/voltage to get the job done.

Your welcome :-)

Jeff
