Is the problem the chuck contricity, or general wobble or slack in the ways?
Why not; take a piece of 3/4 bar, cross drill it near the end and put a
thread in it. Now put it in the lathe and bore it 1/4. Now put your part in
the hole and clamp with a machine screw through the hole your tapped..
Then you can machine the part as desired.
