OK, I know a little more about the TI OMAP systems like the Beagle Board
than the
brand used in the Pi. I have used a Debian-derived Linux on the Beagle
Board
to make a couple embedded projects, and they are spectacular. 3 W power
consumption, uses SD card as "disk", 3 x 3" PC board about 1/2" thick.

Makes a great TCP server node. I figured out how to take over the GPIO
ports at the user process level, but found at least on the OMAP 3530 that
these are multiplexed and do not run anywhere NEAR CPU speed.

Some French guys created a port of RT-linux, but so far there is no port
of RTAI. I send a Beagle Board to Torsten Koschorrek who is the ARM
maintainer for RTAI over a year ago, but he has still not completed the
port.
I'm pretty disappointed by that.
