Hi Jeff;

I had two Gortons, one of which was the 8 1/2 D. It's ugly but rugged, and
much smoother running than a Bridgeport.

A good one is only worth about $800 because nobody wants them (the
machinist's equivalent of dating an ugly woman - we all want to be seen
hanging out with a young, firm Bridgeport).

Mine had a #3 morse taper spindle. Not good. The 8 1/2 D also came with the
much better #30 NMTB. Check before you buy. And yes, it would be easier to
convert to CNC than a BP except for the problem of finding ballscrews. They
could cost three times the price of the mill.
