EMC is Enhanced Machine Controller. It is a project of the National
Institute of Standards and Technology. It is a PC based motion control
software that can is being developed for robotics, and machine tools. It can
drive stepper or servo systems.

Matt Shaver is a member of this list that does machine conversions and other
things for a living and has worked with the folks at the NIST quite a bit in
developing EMC for machine tools. He also spends probably too much of his
time helping out us struggling CNC hobbyists.

Most of us here are using PC based controls of one type or another. Much
cheaper to get and run than the proprietary stuff.
