Anne,
You can get long cut length end mills, but they do cost.
If you are very careful, you can relieve the cutter past the flutes.
This will require multiple passes to reach full depth, but the reduced
portion of the cutter will clear. I did some medical parts once that
required .046 end mills cutting to a depth of .250+, had to grind them
way back! I've got a Cuttermaster, so it's a pretty trivial task for me.
It can be done by hand on a fine grinding wheel, or by slowly rotating
the end mill in a lathe and using a dremel.
If you need a pic, I'll go scrounge of of those cutters I did and email
a pic.
