I have to confess I once used something far worse.

I was briefly employed in a machine shop as an assistant.

I was in the midst of making 1 in a limited series of 80 bizillion
holes in plates for something. We'd made a jig to hold the part, but
didn't have a drill bushing.

We didn't have a depth stop on it either. I was just pulling down until
the drill came out the bottom of the part. On part about 289, I spaced out,
pulled the handle too far, and, yep, drilled a hole in the table.

At about part 814 the owner came along and needed to use the
mill. He cranked the table down towards one end, changed tools, cut a slot,
and left the machie sitting. I came back and realized I had no idea where
to move the table back to. Fortunately I had my little accident.
I put my drill back in the spindle, cranked the table back over the hole,
and tweaked the handwheels until the drill centered in the
hole. Locked the slides and continued production.

Hope George isn't on this list, or if he is, he forgives me for drilling that hole.
