I agree with Jon, get the correct oil for the ways. If your machine doesn't
list what lubricant to use, then use a lube that states it is for your
application.
In a lot of cases, if you use the wrong lubricant it will come off the ways
too soon and cause very early wear on them. In some cases I must admit that
the manufacturers design the ways to be lubricated with ordinary 30W non
detergent motor oil. The OEM I used to work for does that. They use a very
tough polymer that is called Tercite ( hope I spelled it correctly) and the
30W non detergent works quite well. You must be careful when using engine
oil an in almost all cases use non-detegerent as the additive for high
detergent oils can cause some damage in time, at least that is what that OEM
stated.
