Another one in the EMC stepper club

I talked with our always helpful fellow list member Mo and after struggling
through some of the normal and also some new odd install problems he now has
a system that is up and running with EMC.

Congratulations Mo and welcome to the rapidly growing club.

The odd problem Mo had was everything on his install appeared fine and EMC
would fire up correctly, but regardless of how he entered a move his maximum
speed was in the range of .001" per minute!! He sent me the .ini file he was
using and I went through it line by line and even ran a file match program
on it and made a few changes so it matched mine exactly. When I started EMC
on my machine using Mo's .ini file I got the same sub-snail pace movement
even though the file was identical to the one I use and achieve 25 ipm with.
I ended up sending Mo a copy of my .ini file and his problems went away and
movement speed became what it should be.

The moral of the story is, I have now seen a few occasions where files in
Linux look exactly correct, but will not run right. I experienced this with
the run.64step378 file I downloaded from Matt Shaver's web site. The only
way I have found to correct this is to create a new file (not a copy of the
one that is causing the trouble). I have been successful in making a copy of
a different file that has most of what I need and then cutting and pasting
the differences from the "corrupt" file.

Mo explained an idea he has for creating a manual pendent that should take
less than $10 - $15 in materials and would work through EMC so that all of
your position information is correct after a move from the pendent is made.
I am hoping to try putting one together next week and will report to the
list as soon as I have any success.
